2001 Race distribution in VDRB areaThe Mellifera and Carnica bees are the dominating races in the VDRB area. But Buckfast is coming and one can find them everywhere. The Italian Ligustica bee is in Switzerland north of the Alps not existing.The bee queen breeding activity of the Carnica community is much stronger than for the Mellifera, although we have more Mellifera colonies. For the year 2001 we have the following statistics:Mellifera: 91,000 colonies; Carnica: 68,000 colonies; Buckfast: ? everywhere, increasing; Ligustica: noneQueens: Mellifera: ~ 6,000; Carnica: ~ 11,000 .
